Review: Terry Pratchett’s “I Shall Wear Midnight”

Posted by Danny on 27th May 2011

Pratchett Midnight[This review originally appeared in Shroud Magazine Issue #10]
Tiffany Aching refuses to wear midnight—the dark colors traditional for witches. And though she is growing older, she also refuses to give up the seemingly innocent ways of her people. But when evil looms, she is forced to don the mantle of her craft and stand against the darkness.

The fourth and final book of Terry Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching series leads the young witch through physical and personal mine fields, accompanied by the loyal and obstinate Nac Mac Feegle—an army of tiny blue, rowdy, drunken pixies. Not yet 16 years old, Tiffany is now the official witch of the Chalk, her pastoral home region, and must uphold the duties expected of any adult witch. She understands the vagaries of her people, but lacks many of the experiences of her older sister witches.

A Genius of Music?

Posted by Danny on 30th December 2008

While running errands today, I was listening to a New Years’ Compilation a friend, Patrick, sent us as a holiday gift (I swear I have a stack of gifts here I’ve been too much of a loser to actually ship out). One of the songs in there (I don’t even remember which) was a sort of slow, introspective thing. So, when I got home, that’s the mood I was in. Now, if you don’t know, iTunes now has this “genius” feature, which picks songs, based on your current track, that somehow magically relate and have the same feel (I hide the sidebar that tries to sell me more, as I hate things of the sort). So, for probably only the second or third time ever, I clicked that button. Below are the results…

Facing the Puppets: Stop-Motion Fun

Posted by Danny on 3rd August 2006

On a lighter note then what I wrote yesterday, I wanted to point out something I spotted recently. It’s a neat little stop-motion music video directed by a guy named Arno Salter. The song is “Facing that Void” by General Elektriks from the album Cliquety Kliqk. Read the rest of this entry »

Random Spasticity: An iMix

Posted by Danny on 21st July 2006

Random Spasticity iMixI created an imix today. This is partly to just be silly, but mostly to try and get links within the itunes store to the King Baby album. It seems that their “Users also bought…” function and other such things are dependent on imixes, so we need to get these things in there somehow.

The Chumscrubber – not another suburban flick

Posted by Danny on 28th March 2006

If you read most reviews for the film The Chumbscrubber, you’ll come across the accusation that all independent films of this type are merely stereotypical teen suburban angst flicks, and have no individuality. To such “reviewers,” I say, get your bloated head out of your even more bloated ass and actually watch a film for once before spouting. Pay attention. Listen.
